VOLUNTEER TITLE:  Victim Impact Panel Speaker

Duties/Responsibilities:  Speakers relate how their lives have been affected by the sudden loss or severe injury of a loved one or themselves due to someone operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.  The goal of the panel is not to blame or judge offenders in the audience but to affect them on an emotional level and change individual behavior by telling stories.  The panel helps offenders understand how their choice impacts their lives and influences others who are involved. Qualifications:  Anyone who has been the victim of an alcohol/drug related accident, a family member or an offender is welcome to speak on our panel.  We conduct an interviewing process to help ensure the victim is emotionally ready to participate and an appropriate panelist.  Most victims find that speaking on the panel is a valuable experience. How offenders attend our panel:  Offenders are court ordered to attend our panel.  We have adult, juvenile and Spanish panels offered on a rotating schedule twice per month.
Visitors may attend the panel at no charge.  Offenders pay a fee.
